Another fun opportunity to talk with student journalists about the media industry, including finding topics to write about, pitching, invoicing, contracts, and more.
Big thanks to University of Maryland Merrill College professor David Oliver for inviting me to join your panel of journalists in a virtual Q & A.
Another successful Emmy Awards! We had a great time celebrating the 50th anniversary of the NATAS-PSW annual awards. Congrats to all the nominees and recipients.
Wearing gold for the golden anniversary of NATAS-PSW’s Emmy Awards.
As an Emmy committee volunteer (I’m also a former president and board member of the chapter), our committee we spent months curating this golden anniversary event.
Here’s the crew — all volunteers — who made the 50th annual Emmy Awards a success.
The event is enjoyable every year. Plus, I’m always appreciative and learning so much from my Emmy Awards’ peers, awards co-chair MaryEllen Eagelston and show director, Donn Johnson. Shout out to my husband, Frank for all his help and support.

The event featured a yummy dinner, swag bags with lots of goodies, and lots of red carpet fun. The planning for next year’s show is already underway.

S-p-e-l-l-i-n-g b-e-e. Recently, I volunteered at the spelling bee at my son’s elementary school.
I read words to participating students of the bee. Those words ranged from “again” to “remember” to “basketball” and the most challenging word for students, “reservoir.”
Every student who participated received a Merriam-Webster dictionary.
As a writer, I love words and it’s exciting to see the next generation love words too!
I had an amazing time at the San Diego Press Club’s annual journalism awards. It was the chapter’s 50th anniversary! I’ve been a board member of the Press Club for nearly a decade and I’ve been a member for a lot longer than that.
In addition to enjoying the awards gala, I was honored to receive three awards for my writing: two for “House Digest” articles and one for retirement blogs for a client of mine.
Loved being a guest panelist with fellow journalists talking to University of Marylandjournalism students about the state of the industry, pitching, and starting/maintaining a freelance writing career.
Had a great time virtually announcing the NATAS Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards nominations. As chapter president, I was one of the six presenters.
Watch the nom announcement here. Congratulations to all the nominees!
I’m looking forward to the 48th annual NATAS-PSW Emmy Awards, which will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, California.
“Eating disorders rob you of so much enjoyment and so much comfort and they really can kill you.” That’s the message from “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Jackie Goldschneider.
I interviewed her recently for this Mediaplanet article, in which she describes her decades-long eating disorder and recovery. Here’s an excerpt:
“It is not worth it. Eating disorders rob you of so much enjoyment and so much comfort and they really can kill you. It’s a shame to suffer for so long. I wish I had done this earlier.”
I’m excited that two of my branded content articles for Mediaplanet received “Awards of Excellence” from the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts’ in their 27th Annual Communicator Awards.

While I was honored to be nominated for “Outstanding Achievement for Special Events Coverage” of last year’s virtual show, I did not receive an Emmy Award this year. However, I had so much fun on the pre-show Zoom and participating in the virtual awards.
Then on Saturday we distributed the statues at Viejas Casino and Resort. A photographer snapped red carpet pictures and a videographer recorded acceptance speeches. We also enjoyed a little swag – check out the delicious popcorn gifted by Popped Gourmet Popcorn.
